Nobody expects a managing director to read eighty pages of policy wording – that is exactly why we translate it into a table. But five points are worth checking with your own eyes: 20 minutes, and it filters out the most important surprises in time.
Every wording has an exclusions chapter. It is the fastest to read and most informative part: whatever appears here, the insurer typically does not pay for (unless a separate endorsement provides otherwise). The length of the exclusions list is not, by itself, a rating: the real limits of the cover are set jointly by the definition of the insured event, the limits, and the waiting periods.
Modern wordings carry an annex table: service → limit → waiting period. It is the concentrate of the whole document – understand this, and you understand the essence (vocabulary: fine-print dictionary).
„Insured event" and „waiting period" – most disputes hang on these two definitions. If a definition is vague or circular, that is a question for the offeror.
When cover ends (exit, non-payment, contract termination) and what happens to cases in progress. This chapter is the contractual backdrop of the leaving question.
How and when the insurer may raise premiums, what the index is tied to, the notice period. The negotiating room described in the indexation article is codified here.
The web of legal references, cross-comparing multiple insurers’ wordings, and fine-print hunting – that is our job, and why the comparison table exists. The five points do not replace it; they ensure you know what you are signing.
