Where does the premium go in the books? A posting aid

Booking group health insurance is not complicated, but a few recurring questions deserve a unified practice – set together with the accountant, at the start.

The premium’s nature

Premiums paid for employees’ benefit appear among other personnel-type payments – it is a benefit, not an operating service. This is also the logic behind CIT recognition (CIT article).

The public burdens

The specific defined benefit’s 33.04% burden (PIT + social contribution on the 1.18× base) is booked as a payroll-charge-type expense, in the period aligned with premium payment – consistent with the liability arising at payment (mid-year article).

Practical points needing a unified practice

The reconciliation routine

Once a year – ideally before closing – reconcile the insurer’s premium certificate with the ledger: 15 minutes, and every number is supported. For our clients we obtain the certificates; the precise chart-of-accounts fit is the accountant’s terrain.
