The year-end recap: show the team what they received this year

The psychology of benefits is cruel: what people get used to, they stop valuing. The year-end recap is ten minutes of work that restores the programme’s perceived value – right before pay-review season.

What to include

What not to include

Individual data in any form – in small teams even aggregates can be de-anonymised; in that case publish only total usage instead of category splits (GDPR article). And no self-congratulation: the emphasis is on what the team used, not what the company gave.

Timing and channel

Early December is ideal – before the year-end rush, alongside next year’s planning. Channel: a short leadership e-mail plus one slide at the closing meeting. In shift operations, the site-channel rules apply here too.

The quiet side effect

The recap also speaks to management: the same numbers defend (or expand) the budget in the next planning round. A well-documented year is the best bargaining position – as noted in the renewal article.
